This trek begins above Machame, a picturesque mountain village south of Kilimanjaro. After crossing the forest and then the tall grasses and giant heather of the moors, the trail continues through some rocks to the Shira plateau. Then, it continues counter-clockwise, under the south face of Kibo to reach the Lava Tower with its superb panorama. The ascent of the Barranco Wall, a difficult but challenging climb, approaches Uhuru Peak via Barafu, a ridge adjacent to the South East Valley. The climb from Barafu offers incredible views of Mawenzi Peak, a volcanic remnant of Kilimanjaro.
Select your business. You should feel comfortable in your clothes and not overload yourself (or the wearers).
We advise you to wear several layers of loose-fitting clothing to cope with possible climatic variations during the same day of walking. The days can be sunny and warm but the evenings and the final ascent are very cool.
Choose polypropylene clothing over cotton, which does not retain your body heat and may cause you to sweat too quickly.

Visa required
A passport valid for more than 6 months from the date of arrival in Tanzania is required by the Tanzanian authorities.
The visa application must be made at the Tanzanian Embassy in France. However, if the traveler is unable to apply for a visa before departure, it can be obtained at the international airports of Dar-Es-Salaam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro, as well as at the ports of Dar-Es-Salaam, Zanzibar and Kigoma.
At the border crossing, immigration officers may reduce the validity of a visa issued by a Tanzanian embassy. It is therefore advisable to check the mention affixed by the immigration services on the visa itself and to strictly respect the duration of the stay granted.
It is essential to inform the Tanzanian authority issuing the visa of the tourist or professional nature of the stay. The rates for tourist visas are different and any person staying under a tourist visa for professional reasons is liable to prosecution with serious consequences (heavy fine, deportation, or even temporary or permanent ban from the country). For example, it is forbidden to carry out any activity (even voluntary) with a tourist visa: even for a short stay, applicants must apply for a type C residence permit.
Only post-2006 U.S. dollars are accepted for payment of visa fees upon entry to Tanzania. Euros are not accepted.
For more information, it is recommended to contact the Tanzanian Embassy in Paris.

Next day:
Pre-trek briefing at your hotel in Moshi. We will also examine your equipment and rent any necessary equipment. Rest before departure and wait for any delayed luggage.
We will have a 45 minute drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. The road passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain.
We leave the park gate and walk through the rainforest on a winding trail over a ridge. At lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea. We continue for a short distance until we reach Machame Camp.

From the Shira plateau, we continue eastward on a ridge, passing the junction to the Kibo peak. As we continue, we head southeast towards Lava Tower (altitude 4600 m). Shortly after, we arrive at the second junction that goes towards the Arrow glacier. We continue now towards the camp of Barranco. Although you will end the day at about the same altitude as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Very early in the morning (around midnight), we attack towards the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Soon we will be towards Stella Point on the edge of the crater. This is the most mentally and physically difficult part of the trek. At Stella Point, you will stop for a short rest and be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you will ever see. Faster hikers can see the sunrise from the summit.
From Stella Point, it is possible to get snow all the way to the top. Once you reach Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent!
From the summit, we begin our descent by continuing straight to Mweka camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. We arrive at Mweka camp in the afternoon and enjoy our last evening on the mountain.
